Starting the Fire on the Subway

I've wanted to knit the Firestarter pattern for a long time now, ever since I started knitting socks last year. They were cleverly designed and simple enough of a pattern so that it wouldn't be lost with super variagated yarn and yet interesting enough that a lace-and-cables knitter such as myself wouldn't get bored. I CO for them back in December as a "decoy sock" while I was knitting a pair of Twisted Flowers for mom for Christmas. They remind me of sitting by the pool in Florida in December, drying off, knitting, and daydreaming about a novel I may write one of these days. Which would go on, of course, to be the next Harry Potter, obliging me to write several more.

But I digress. The pattern is really great and the yarn was autumnal when I bought it but now it's springy, yellows and oranges and greens. Isn't it lovely how color can change like that? That a colorway that resonated with you back in September may come back with a vengeance in March? It's so time for color. This is the month that I crave greens and yellows and deep blues, anything to get through the winter.

Firestarter Fronts

Today was the perfect precursor to spring day. Mid 50s. Breezy. Blue sky with some big fat white clouds. Lots of sunshine. And that delicious spring smell in the air. Here in the northcountry, the snow is finally starting to recede from the back yard (despite having another dusting this morning) and our plant friends are starting to think green thoughts.

In other news, I met two knit-friendly people, one in the waiting room at the doctors this morning and another coming home on the train. The one on the train asked me if I knit the socks I was wearing today (yes, yellow and purple striped Jaywalkers with my purple Earth shoes because a day as nice as today needed shoes and socks to match) and that it was so great for my friends that I knit because I could hand-make them presents.
